Fun Sites for Teachers
I am a certified K-8 teacher from the state of Michigan with endorsements in Language Arts, Fine Arts, and English as a Second Language. I taught 5th grade at Central Academy in Ann Arbor, substituted in grades Pre-K - 12, and have been an animation instructor for middle school kids through the Community Arts Program at the College for Creative Studies in Detroit. So I'm not just interested in animation, I'm interested in how students learn regular curriculum through animation, new media and the arts in general. These links are just a few that I have found handy as a teacher.
Animation For Teachers - I put this site up for a workshop I did for the Ann Arbor Public Schools in 2005. This is information on how to do your own "Haiku Animation" as part of your language arts curriculum.
ELMAC - Looking for a meaningful career change? Check out University of Michigan School of Education's ELMAC program, a one year intensive Master's degree program with teacher certification. In all honesty, if you plan on being a teacher, you really do need to be in a classroom for a full year to see how it's done.
Discovery Education - Lots of resources including a puzzlemaker and really well-drawn clip art.
Scholastic - Not just books, but resources for teachers!
National Geographic - You mean the magazine?
Time for Kids - You mean the magazine for kids?
Dave's ESL Cafe - For ideas on your ESL classroom.
6+1 Writing Traits - A great way to teach kids how to critically look at writing - both their own and their buddies!
Rubistar - Need to write a rubric? This site has them!
Love and Logic - Need classroom management skills? I swear by logical consequences and the motto: "Move your hips before your lips".
Wayne RESA and Washtenaw ISD - Educational resources for teachers in the Southeast Michigan Area. Wayne RESA has training DVDs for teachers in various topics such as "Using Word" or "Using Mac OSX". They have a wonderful technology department.
College for Creative Studies Community Arts Partnerships - If you're a middle school teacher around the Detroit area, a good place for a field trip about careers in the arts is with the Discovery Tours through CCS's Community Arts program.
